Clothing Alterations by Professional Tailor in Bridgewater, Brockton, Easton, Mansfield, Norton, and West Bridgewater, MA

Proper Measurements are Critical

We are fortunate employ one of the best tailors in Easton and the Boston Metro area. To repair a garment, the tailor has to have a knowledge of the type of material the garment is made from. They have to know how to repair the item to return it to its original size and shape. Sometimes what looks like a normal and easy repair is not what you think. The tailor has to have a vision of the original style of the item and how it will look after the alteration is complete. When doing a hem or taking in or letting out an item, the person doing the measurement must be very accurate when fitting the garment to the customer. The finished product must be precise to fit the persons body shape and size. Poor measurements cause poorly repaired garments.

Measuring Pants for Proper Hem

To measure pants, whether men's or ladies, the customer should bring the shoe that will be worn with the garment. This will ensure proper measurement. If this is not available the tailor can measure the pants from the inseam (from crotch to top of foot) or from outer seam ( from top of waist to top of foot). Pants can be hemmed with no cuff or with a 1 inch cuff depending on choice of customer.

Alterations to Men's Shirts and Jackets

When shortening the length of the sleeves or letting the sleeve down, the sleeve should be no longer than to the wrist. When taking in or letting out a blazer, the size is measured by opening the 2 side seams or the center seam. When taking in an item you can only take it in up to 3 sizes; when letting out the item you are limited to 0 to 2 sizes. Note: it is easier to take in a garment than to let it out. All alterations should be fitted by the seamstress or tailor to insure proper adjustment.

Shirt Tailoring and Repairs

If a shirt has a fraying collar, the tailor can remove the collar, flip the collar over and
re-sew the collar to the shirt thus making the shirt look like new again. This can only be done for a shirt that does not have collar stays. Also, if a shirt sleeve is getting worn out at the elbow it can be made into a short sleeve shirt. This will give the shirt a new look. If you have a problem buying a shirt with the proper sleeve length (always too long or too short), buy the shirt a little longer and have the sleeves shortened. Please note that you cannot lengthen a shirt sleeve.
We offer a fitting room on site for your convenience. We can take measurements any time the store is open, no appointment necessary!
